As Ludger Beerbaum wrote in his foreward to the specialist book „Course designing fascinatelly logical“,  written by internationaly established course designers Georg-Christoph Bödicker and Werner Deeg:

„ A rider without a horse is a pedestrian. A showjumping rider without fences is only a rider.“

Competence, know-how and courage to try out new ways without wanting to invent already existing things once again – that are the basics that make a course designer being a very important part of showjumping competition. He can decide if a show gets to be successfull or not; he can also massively influence the education of both horse and rider.
